Choosing a VOC
Choosing a VOC
VOC regulations vary by state. Please use the following VOC guidelines to help choose the appropriate formulation for your project. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact a Foundation Armor technician. Please order the VOC for the state in which you will be using the product.
700 VOC: The 700 VOC formulation can be used in every state except AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, IL, IN, MA, MD, ME, MI, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, UT, VA.
350 VOC: The 350 VOC formulation can be used in every state except CA, CO, NY, OH.
50 VOC: The 700 VOC and 350 VOC formulations are the most popular formulations. The 50 VOC formula is manufactured specifically for states with high VOC restrictions such as CA, CO, NY and OH.
Please note that the above information is for informational purposes only, and based solely on information known to Foundation Armor at the time this page’s publication. VOC regulations can change, and can vary by county within each state. Please consult your federal, state, and local regulations to ensure you are using a VOC compliant product.
Which VOC Should I Choose? If you qualify for multiple VOC formulations, you can choose the VOC formulation based on your personal preference. Typically, we find that most customers opt for the highest allowed VOC in their state. The higher VOC formulations are easier to apply simply because they don’t flash as quickly as the lower VOC formulations. There can be a slight variation in the appearance from one VOC formulation to the next. It is not suggested to apply different VOC formulations in the same area to avoid a difference in appearance. This isn’t always the case, but it can be.

Description
Description
The Armor AG Brown Seal is a solvent based brown-tinted acrylic sealer designed to enhance and protect concrete, exposed aggregate, and concrete pavers with a semi-transparent brown-tinted high gloss finish. The Armor AG Brown Seal doubles as a cure and seal and can be applied to new concrete to aid with proper curing.
Benefits:
- Will enhance surfaces with a semi-transparent brown tinted high gloss finish
- Will reduce damage and deterioration caused by water absorption
- Will reduce damage and deterioration caused by surface abrasion
- Easy to apply with a roller or sprayer to concrete and concrete pavers
- Will reduce the growth of mold, mildew, and algae
- UV resistant, non-yellowing, breathable
- Meets ASTM C1315 and ASTM C309 standards
Application Instructions
Application Instructions
The Armor AG Brown Seal can be applied with a 3/8-1/2” nap roller, or a solvent resistant commercial pump sprayer. For a consistent wet look and high gloss finish, apply two coats spaced 24 hours apart.
Time Of Day
The Armor AG Brown Seal should only be applied in the early evening when air and surface temperatures are declining, and when the sun is no longer positioned over the surface. To avoid bubbling and hazing, do not apply in the morning or middle of the day.
Surface Preparation
The Armor AG Brown Seal should be applied to a completely clean and dry surface. If the surface was cleaned with water or pressure washed prior to application, allow the surface to dry for at least 24 hours before sealing. While pressure washing the surface is typically sufficient, spot treatment may be necessary for deep or older stains.
The Armor AG Brown Seal is designed specifically for use on unsealed concrete and concrete paver surfaces, as well as concrete and concrete pavers previously sealed with a solvent based acrylic. If the concrete is smooth or trowel finished, and doesn’t quickly and easily absorb water, other surface preparation may be required to open up the surface pores, such as acid etching or grinding.
The Armor AG Brown Seal should not be used to seal clay brick, red Chicago pavers, flagstone, slate, or natural stone. If you are looking to seal clay brick, red Chicago pavers, flagstone, slate, or natural stone, consider instead of the Armor WL550 or the Armor SX5000 WB.
Note About Sealing Pavers:
Please note, while the Armor AG Brown Seal can be applied over paver joints, it is not designed as a bonding agent and will not harden or bond the loose sand in the paver joints. If applying with a roller, loose sand in the joints may cling to the roller and be redistributed across the pavers. For best results, apply first coat with a sprayer if you are applying to pavers with loose sand in the paver joints.
When applying to porous pavers, gloss level may be reduced, and more material may be required to achieve desired finish.
Adding Non-Slip: For added surface traction, the Armor Non-Slip additive can be added. The ultra-fine, fine, and coarse Armor Non-Slip additives works best in the Armor AG Brown Seal . Applying the Ultra-Fine: Slowly drill mix 3-6.5 ounces of non-slip additive per gallon of sealer, until completely blended, then apply. For Fine and Coarse: When applying the second coat, add the non-slip additive to the coating using a broadcast spreader, and back roll to encapsulate the non-slip additive.
Clean-Up
Use Xylene or acetone. Dispose of containers in accordance with local and federal regulations.
Product Removal
Dried, cured sealer may be removed with a the Armor CR100, or by using a diamond grinding method, sandblasting method or similar mechanical action.
For in-depth up-to-date application instructions, please refer to the Technical Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet for this product. Documents, videos, and customer photos can be found HERE.
Coverage
Coverage
Porous Surfaces: Up to 175 square feet per gallon in one coat.
Smooth Surfaces (once properly prepped): Up to 200-225 square feet per gallon in one coat.
Coverage will vary depending on porosity, surface condition, application method, and the amount of material applied by the applicator. The above coverage rates are estimates and will vary. Two coats are suggested for even coverage and appearance.
